Nature is highly powerful - it has the capability to feed us; to give us clean air and water; to recycle our waste; to provide fuel and medicine, as well as having the ability to inspire, educate and promote healthy living and wellbeing. But, because of modern living, our drive to produce more goods and to transform our living spaces into sprawling, grey, concrete deserts, we have put a huge strain on nature, leading to a decline in many species and possibly even a collapse in some of the natural processes providing those ‘services’ that allow us to exist. As, for much of our wildlife, isolated in small fragments of relict habitat, many of us, too,  have become disconnected - disconnected from the natural world, viewing the world from out concrete towers.

So imagine a land in which the environment is bustling and coloured with life, one that is interconnected allowing natural processes to flow readily and which we can access on our doorsteps. Well a new inclusive, large-scale focussed solution to environmental problems, with sustainability as a core concept, is attempting to achieve such a vision, to reverse the declines in wildlife by encompassing all the spaces that we people make use of - areas where we live, work and play.

The vision is one in which wildlife can sit comfortably alongside people in our towns and cities and can thrive in our rural landscapes and farmland. For decades the focus has been on protecting sites in our countryside as isolated reserves but there is a realisation that this is not enough and that conservation cannot ‘save the planet’ alone. Both our urban and rural communities can contribute to reconnecting and expanding the many green spaces that are so important for wildlife and people. Britain is leading a revolution in sustainable living and needs our farmers, schools, businesses and local communities to work together to create greener and wilder spaces.

We’re here to help make this vision a reality by working with all sectors of our community.
